Dirty Pretty Things To Do Free Charity Gig August 19, 2006

Posted by alexd in Music.

Just got this my email:

dirty pretty things charity gigDirty Pretty Things have announced that they will play a special gig at The Coronet, in South London, on September 13th in support of Make Roads Safe, an international campaign calling for the G8 to take action on road traffic injuries, which kill more than 1.2 million people around the world, the majority in developing countries. Road deaths are a global epidemic on the scale of Malaria and TB.

200 pairs of tickets to the concert will be given away free by the Make Roads Safe campaign and Dirty Pretty Things to supporters in a prize draw.

Dirty Pretty Things’ commitment to the campaign is motivated in part by a recent tragedy in which three teenage girls were killed. Two sisters, Claire and Jennifer Stoddart, and their friend, Carla Took, died in a car crash in July while driving home from a gig in Ipswich at which Dirty Pretty Things had played.

Calling on fans to sign the Make Roads Safe online petition at www.makeroadssafe.org Carl Barat said:

“It is unbelievable that around the world a child is killed every 3 minutes on the road, yet almost nothing is being done to prevent this. The recent deaths in Suffolk of Claire, Jennifer and Carla were so sad, such a waste of young lives, and this is happening to families every day. This is why Dirty Pretty Things are supporting the Make Roads Safe campaign.”

Road crashes are the biggest single killer of 16-24 year olds in the UK, Europe and the US. In the UK young drivers are most likely to crash at night, with friends in the car, for example when returning home from a gig or club. Globally, only HIV/AIDS kills more young men.

To enter the prize draw for tickets to the Make Roads Safe gig go to www.makeroadssafe.org and join the campaign by signing up to the Make Roads Safe petition and ticking the box marked ‘Please enter me for the Dirty Pretty Things prize draw’. The prize draw is open until 31st August. Winners will be drawn randomly and notified by e-mail on 1st September.

There are also a very limited amount of tickets on sale now. Click here to get yours.

Honestly guys no excuses. I’d like to go just to see if they played “Bang, Bang Your Dead”…. Don’t look at me like that, it would hardly be suitable would it.

Lilly Allen Collaborates With Robbie Williams August 19, 2006

Pretentious sycophantic music hacks at nme.com. Have reported that:

lillyLily Allen is to feature on Robbie Williams‘ new album.

Allen sang on three of the former Take That star’s new songs before she was famous.

Speaking to The Herald Sun, Allen said: “I was recording with Mark Ronson, and he was working on Robbie‘s album. It was before anything happened with me. He needed a female vocalist. I said fine and did it and I think Robbie‘s quite pleased now.

“I think they sound pretty good, though I can’t actually remember what they’re called or how they go.”

It seems Lily Allen is also hoping to succeed where her collaborator failed and break the US.

Her album ‘Alright, Still’ will be released by major label Capitol in 2007, and Allen has lined up two dates across the Atlantic:

Los Angeles Troubadour (October 14)
Chicago Double Door (16)

More dates will be announced soon.

Some of you that I am a big fan of Mark Ronson’s work. But I didn’t know he was producing Robbie’s new album. Which means he probably produced Rudebox… which is dreadful, I mean really appalling. You decide.

You can also be ahead of your mates by hearing the new Kasabian album “Empire” on Rupert Murdoch’s favourite toy.

Honestly these guys can do no wrong (except go on a “temporary hiatus”). It does remind me of that The Decemberists video for “16 military wives” though.

reading barrier

You must forgive me for being a bit behind still, and still sorting myself. Either way Reading/Leeds venturing sweaty, black haired moshers may be shocked to find upon a arrival the introduction of barriers at their festival of choice.

Many initially worried about being some kind of golden circle farce, but it has been swiftly addressed by the Managing Director of the event. It is merely to lessen the danger of crushing (of which has happened at past festival around the world, with deaths and everything). I think its excellent as it will keep you smelly, sweaty, angry lot away from my skin tight designer jeans and perfectly messy hair.

See you guys on Saturday I’ll be looking perfectly sculpted and wearing a green CSS shirt made poorly by my meager textile skills.

My Internet Junkie Overdose August 17, 2006

RIP Data PanikHaving been away for 2 weeks, cut off from the ever moving, ever hyping, ever flaming internet world. I had been suffering withdrawal symptons. But now back in blighty i was able to feed my unending addiction. And have just recovered from a fit of vomiting and shaking uncontrollably around on the floor with my eyes rolled into the back of my head, having scanned my bloglines feeds. I have also been trying to cut through all the podcasts I’ve missed, ridiculous amount of emails and soon the 3 episodes of Lost I missed.

Cuba by the way can be summed up in the way that for breakfast you could regularly find croissants (or what looked like) made of bread. Looks like very similar but tastes a bit more wholesome/healthier/different. The people do seem pretty happy (ignorance is bliss) though. the old throaty cars are brilliantly disfunctional antiques. We took a Taxi to Old Havana, and following lunch, walked past the same Chevrolet pulled up at the lights, with the old driver investigating the cause of his smoking engine.

Anyway, I have missed loads, and really can’t tell you everything thats happened. So here are the headlines:

The catchy synth poppers Data Panik have split

Beck’s Album is out in October

Albert Hammond Jnr From The Strokes Is Going Solo

I think the above will probably be rubbish as he always plays the simpler bits in the Strokes Songs. Nick Valensi always had the better bits.
