Apolgies for the shit pun.

Not as hip-hop as I expected. But it’s not like Nigel Godrich is well known for his beats and keepin’ it street. Still, ace bassline and chorus. Also loving the drumming in the middle 8.

Oh yeah, the blogs gonna be on hiatus until I return from Cuba in 2 weeks. Adios!

The gauntlet of multiinstrumentalism is being passed between the to on this one.

Los Campesinos! are set to support Broken Social Scene at their forthcoming Cardiff gig.

The band said: “This really is, clichés aside, a dream come true for us. It’s difficult to convey just how pant-wettingly excited we are about this”.

This will be Broken Social Scene‘s last UK tour before their ‘indefinite hiatus’ at the end of the summer.

Their current gig schedule runs as follows:

AUGUST
29 – Cardiff The Point (w/ Broken Social Scene)

SEPTEMBER
11 – London Nambucca
15 – Porthcawl Live By The Sea, Wales
16 – Cardiff Upstairs At Dempseys

OCTOBER
6 – Cardiff Downstairs at Clwb Ifor Bach

Honestly guys, why in Wales though? The country that has notably produced…. errr… Charlotte Church. Is it worth the £50 train trip… probably. Do I have £50? No. Buggar.

Fishing Is The New Rock ‘n’ Roll July 31, 2006

fishingA host of bands including The Kooks, The Holloways, Mystery Jets, Larrikin Love, Battle, Good Shoes, The Rumble Strips, Babyshambles and The Young Knives have all signed up for a fishing competition which is part of a 13 week series. It’s all being organised by Resonance FM.

Drummer of Babyshambles Adam Ficek will be teaming up with Resonance FM’s Duncan Whittaker at Walthamstow Fisheries for the station’s Rock n Fishing contest.

Queens Of Noize’s Mairead is also set to try her hand at the sport with her Dad, who used to be a successful match fisherman.

The Holloways are currently topping the leaderboard with 29 points with Kid Harpoon and Breaks producer Iain Gore in second.

The top two bands will eventually battle it out in the final on September 28.

To listen in tune into 104.4 FM this Thursday from 1pm.

I predict Topshop will be selling designer waders, bait hats/jackets within weeks. Could be great listening though. I always remember waking up to early on a Saturday morning (round 6 o clock) and listening to this fishing show on the radio 5 live. If its that plus bands, I might turn my podcasts off to “tune in”.

Straight from the horses (well Adam Ficek’s) mouth via highlyevolved84 from the libertines forum who met him at the Beniscissm festival.

  • The new album is all finished and recorded, they produced it themselves and it will come out very soon. They were trying to release it on the same day as their ‘Get Loaded in the Park’ gig, but there were some difficulties. It will feature 10 or 11 songs, to keep it short and powerful, and will be a lot more of a ‘studio’ album.
  • Everything is going pretty well with peter, he’s not quite there yet, but he’s really making the effort.
  • He doesn’t know when or if Pat’s gonna come back. He needed some time for himself, after all the drugs etc, so they’re just being patient, and would love him to return, but they don’t wanna push him.
  • They don’t have a record deal as yet, almost every label on the planet is interested, but they are yet to decide on one.
  • They were going to record Janie Jones by the clash for charity with Luke from the Kooks on vocals, but he never showed up.
  • He doesn’t think much of the strokes…

Great news! Particularly the fact that they didn’t record anything with that knob from The Kooks.

Just go this in my inbox.

AUGUST GIGS
..there are some shows taking place. Some of them are in clubs, some at festivals, some others in record stores, and even a few more transmitted through your radio. All of these shows will be happening in the next few weeks. Here is a list of them:

Monday August 14th,
Fopp in Camden- catch a little in store set at 6 pm

Tuesday August 15th,
turn on the Zane Lowe show for a radio performance we will be calling “Zane, how Lowe can you go?” and competing in a limbo contest… we will also play some songs

Wednesday August 16th,
2 things: first, an instore (I think) at Vibes Bury at 1pm… second, an XFM radio performance at 9pm

Thursday August 17th,
an instore at Action Records, Preston at 12:30 in the afternoon followed by another XFM performance for the lovely fans in Glasgow at 9pm

So thats that. in the biz, we call most of that stuff promo. There are a few other things worth mentioning in this email. So read on.

We will be playing a festival known as The Carling Weekend Reading and Leeds Annual Get-Together. We perform in Reading on the Carling stage on the 26th and in Leeds on the same stage on the 27th. Then we may get on stage with Pearl Jam and sing a duet with them of their hit song Don’t Call me Daughter if they ever return our calls.

and there’s more..

Sunday 20th August Bristol – Academy 2
Monday 21st August York – Fibbers
Tuesday 22nd August Birmingham – Academy 2
Wednesday 23rd August Manchester – Academy 3
Thursday 24th August Norwich – Arts Centre
Saturday 26th August Reading Festival
Sunday 27th August Leeds Festival

That Fopp instore may make up a little for the earlier denial of CSS. The Spinto Band are great by the way. Perfect for anyone with withdrawal symptoms following the hiatus of Broken Social Scene, and the indefinite wait from The Arcade Fire next multiinstrumental extravaganza. Definitely check out this video for “Oh Mandy”. Could have been video for the year if it wasn’t for Kasabian’s “Empire”.

Then…

Through work experience, I managed to completely miss this songs launch. Having really loved their debut album, I had been disappointed by the new stuff they played at “T in the Park”. And then I saw the video. Pretty fucking amazing. Kasabian have out done themselves with this cinematic epic. Its better than the Pirates of the Caribbean! I disliked the song at first, but its growing on me, and could have been a festival favourite if they released the new album earlier.

Props for qouting Wilfred Owens “Dulce et Decorum Est” at the end.

have reported that:

Damon Albarn has formed a new band for his next project.

The Blur frontman was working on a solo project with Danger Mouse producing, but now the pair have switched their attention to working on a new album called ‘The Good The Bad And The Queen’.

The record has been recorded by the new group which features The Clash‘s bassist Paul Simonon, former Verve man and auxiliary Blur guitarist Simon Tong (most underrated guitarist ever) and drummer Tony Allen along with Albarn.

They plan to release their debut single in October, before the full album – a concept record about London – is released in January next year.

The group will make their live debut at the BBC‘s Electric Proms season at revamped Camden venue The Roundhouse this October.

Sound like Britians answer to The Raconteurs. We haven’t had a descent supergroup since Cream. It will be worth praying for Damon to use the talent around him in the way that it should be. As in; make an sublime popband. Not use this as another attempt to create an underwhelming arty album (e.g Think Tank 2.0). He will have to do quite a lot of work to out do former Blur guitarist Graham Coxon, having created some of the best alternative/pop/rock ever with his last two albums.

“Make it more punchy”…. July 29, 2006

cuntHello readers. Some of you may remember that I’ve been doing work experience in an edit/dubbing suite place near Russel Square. It’s taught me that their is far too much money in the media industry. 15 minutes of advertising pays for 4 runners, a receptionist, 3 office managers, 3/4 sound technicians, 3 geeks, a colourists and several editor. On top of a programmes hiring of expensive equipment, and all the commissioners at Channel 4. And this is for nearly a whole month!

Frankly- the place i was working at was a sanctuary with receptionist protection from the normal media/arty Soho types that believe that Nathan Barley was a reality tv show. And I enjoyed the way they took these prats money to hire their equipment to make their constantly “edgy” documentaries and edusoaps etc.

I could go on a rant about one director, but I think i’ve made my point, and I don’t want to harm the reputation of this lovely little company. Its these kind of people that put me off working in the media. the inevitable time i would spend doing my bidding could push me into either being like them or trying to be different, so end up like them.

I’m also a little bit miffed that the CSS gig in London (probably filled by trendy London types) is over 18. If only I had tits.
